Passion FIRE is about making money off the things you love, but what if what you love is a niche hobby?
Luckily, with the internet, monetizing your hobbies, no matter how niche, has never been easier.
Monetizing Your Hobbies

Many hobbies easily lend themselves to monetization. We’ve already highlighted the traditional hobbies that make money – selling your artwork, writing a book, uploading designs to print-on-demand.
Instead, we’re focusing on how to make money from any hobby.
Do you have a special interest in model trains? Are you obsessed with a specific historical period? Is your house full of the largest collection of some random object?
We’ve got you covered.
Here are five ways to make money from nearly any hobby.
Start a Blog

Blogging isn’t what it used to be. It’s harder than ever to make money blogging – but hard doesn’t mean impossible.
And niche blogs do best.
You can blog about anything, including your niche hobby. People blog about money, books, travel, wellness, games, toys, parenting, and more.
You could create the go-to resource on green bottles from the 18th century, or why golden retrievers make the best pets.
Once you’re up and running, you can start connecting with other folks who share your specific interest (they’re out there!)
You can start a blog with Bluehost for as little as four bucks a month, so why not try it?
How Do Blogs Make Money

Blogs can make money via affiliate sales, sponsored posts, and ad revenue.
However, you need to remember that blogging isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. You can’t throw a few posts up and expect to make thousands of dollars.
Like anything, it’s a labor of love. But if you put in the time and effort, you will eventually be able to monetize nearly any hobby by blogging about it.
Make a YouTube Channel

If you don’t enjoy writing, you can monetize nearly any hobby by making videos about it. Create “how-to” tutorials about your hobby or make passionate stories about why you love it so much. Post videos of conferences or conventions covering your hobby.
There are YouTubers who turned their love of kitbashing, crafting, movies, fishing, gaming, and more into a money-making machine. You can join them.

Like with blogging, it takes a while to monetize a YouTube channel. You need over four thousand valid watch hours and over one thousand subscribers in the past year to join the partner program, which allows you to earn money from ads and paid subscriptions.
These numbers seem daunting, but you will get there if you post regularly and have great content.
However, you can monetize with affiliate marketing or sponsored videos before joining the partner program.
Create a Podcast

If you don’t want to spend time making and editing videos, you can always go an easier route and make a podcast. Podcasting is all the rage right now, and if you can talk about your hobby for hours on end, why not break it down into digestible podcast-able segments?
Most podcast hosting networks offer a few free hours of podcast time, allowing you to explore podcasting and determine if you like it before you have to pay.
The hosting fees are usually reasonable, with most sites costing between $10-$20 per month and allow you to send your podcast to Apple and Spotify.
Once you get your name out there, you can start working with brands on sponsorship deals. You can also make money via affiliate marketing.
Sell on Etsy

I’m constantly shocked at the innovation I find on Etsy. People sell all sorts of wild things on the platform!
No matter how niche your creations are, you can find a market for them on Etsy. You can find crochet creatures, printable workbooks, prompts, woodwork projects, productivity tools, and all sorts of niche products.
Collectors could make printable pages to rate specific pieces or guides to collecting. Makers can sell their creations. People who love personal development can create and sell tools.
If you can think of something to make related to your hobby, you can sell it on Etsy.
Social Media

Get paid to post about your niche hobby on social media!
Platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram make it easy to monetize any hobby. Of course, you have to create content related to the hobby and post regularly, but if you eventually build a following, you can sell affiliate products or sponsored posts.
The great thing about social media is that your followers don’t have to be as passionate about the thing as you are. You’ll attract folks with a passing interest who love YOUR passion.
How to Monetize a Hobby with Affiliate Marketing

You probably noticed that 4 out of 5 ways to monetize your hobbies include affiliate marketing.
With affiliate marketing, you provide a link to a product and earn a commission whenever someone clicks the link and buys the product. It’s the easiest method of monetizing your hobbies, no matter which platform you use to share them.

Even the weirdest, most niche hobbies can make money through affiliate marketing. You just have to be a little creative.
Here are some ideas for monetizing your hobbies with affiliate marketing to get you started.
Books and Movies

You might be wondering how to monetize a history, political, or sociology hobby.
These topics abound in books and documentaries. Sign up for an affiliate account with Bookshop.org and promote your favorite books on the topic.
But selling books isn’t limited to educational hobbies. There are books on pretty much any topic you can imagine – making them one of the easiest ways to start with affiliate marketing.
Supplies

Any hobby where you make something has supplies. Whether you’re crocheting, kitbashing, making models, using papier-mache, or building something completely unique, you need materials.
Most craft stores have affiliate programs, as do a lot of tool stores. Think about all the things you use when working on your hobby and find ways to sell them.
Equipment

A lot of niche hobbies require tools and equipment – why not share what you use with your audience?
Maybe you use a specific computer program to get your designs to look just right or special goggles for your ghost hunting hobby. Perhaps you refuse to go on a hike without these specific boots, and can’t find mistakes in your code without special software.
Collectors may swear by a specific microscope or lens, and may have special equipment for maintaining their collection.
