32 Spring Activities to Make the Most of the Season

Springtime is calling!

As the weather warms, it’s time to get out of your house and go do all the things.

But where do you start? We’ve got you covered. Here are the best spring activities for a fun-filled (and productive!) season.

Outdoor Spring Activities

The spring months burst with potential. The warm weather has us itching to get outside, and there are so many fun things to do.

These are our favorites.

Picnic

A picnic is the quintessential spring activity. Grab your blanket, basket of snacks, and sunscreen to enjoy a wonderful respite in a spring meadow amongst the blooming flowers.

After lunch, lie back in the grass and watch the clouds. It’s the perfect way to spend a lovely spring day.

Spring Hike

Hiking is a wonderful activity for any season, but I think it’s best in the spring and fall. In these two seasons, the weather is nice enough for a day outside, and nature is at its best.

We covered why fall hikes are epic in our article about the best fall activities, but spring hikes are great, too.

You’ll see loads of blooming flowers, insects, and songbirds all celebrating the return of warmth. You might get lucky and spot some ducklings, too.

See a Baseball Game

America’s pastime makes its epic comeback in the spring. Nab tickets and head to the ballpark to watch your favorite teams run around the diamond.

If professional tickets are outside your budget, consider heading to a minor league game. They tend to be more entertaining anyway.

Plant a Garden

Planting a garden stands as one of my favorite spring activities. As nature starts to regrow, so does my garden.

Try planting pretty flowers in front of the house, or seasonal vegetables in the back, so you can grow some of your own food.

Visit the Baby Animals at a Zoo

Even the animals know that spring is the season of rebirth. It’s the time of year when most mothers give birth to their babies, because food is plentiful and they have time to fatten up before winter’s emptiness sets in.

Of course, you shouldn’t bother animals in their native habitats, but there’s one place that lets you enjoy all the babies come springtime: the zoo.

Head to your nearest zoo to see if they have any new residents. Take time to visit all the animals – even the smaller ones you normally don’t think about.

Stroll through a Botanical Garden

If a springtime hike is too much for you, consider visiting a botanical garden instead. You get to see all the lovely blooms of spring, but don’t have to battle mud for footing.

Although many botanical gardens are typically open year-round, spring is the best time to visit, as more flowers are blooming.

Head to a Local Festival

Spring marks the start of festival season, where cities and towns across the country start celebrating longer, warmer nights with fairs and festivals.

Check out the offerings near you and enjoy a spring carnival with all the rides, games, and bad-for-you fair food.

But festival season also means musical festivals. Coachella typically kicks off outdoor music season, but there’s bound to be a spring show near you.

Host a Block Party

Most of us lock ourselves away in our little boxes without even trying to get to know the folks locked away next door.

Spring is the perfect time to change that.

Host a block party and invite all your neighbors. Use food and fun to get to know each other.

Fly a Kite

Spring meadows and breezy days create the perfect opportunity for kite flying. Launch yours and see how high it can soar!

Combine kite flying with a picnic for the perfect spring day.

Take a Weekend Trip

Why not enjoy spring activities all weekend long with a weekend getaway?

Head to a lake, state park, or charming small town for a mini-vacation that allows you to enjoy the best of spring.

Go for a Bike Ride

Embrace your inner child with a springtime bike ride. Coast down backroads and biking trails. Bring some food for a little picnic along the way.

Many cities offer bike rentals so you can enjoy the joys of bike riding even if you don’t own a bike.

Relax at a Duck Pond

Head to your local pond and watch the wildlife go about their day. Relax on a bench while enjoying swimming ducks, basking turtles, and the occasional chirp of a frog.

You may even glimpse the baby ducks swimming around their parents.

Take the Kids to a Park

Spring activities don’t have to be expensive. Take your kids to the local park and watch them enjoy the swings, slides, and monkey bars.

Let them run around and release winter’s pent-up energy. Allow yourself to be a kid again as you play with them.

Go Camping

Spring is a perfect time to dust off your tent and head out into the wilderness.

Tell scary campfire stories. Roast marshmallows. Sleep under the stars. Enjoy nature’s glory.

Collect Flowers

Flowers are the best part of spring. Anywhere you look, you see gorgeous blooms in nearly every color.

Stop and smell them. Savor them.

And why not collect a few for posterity?

Bird Watching

Millions of birds make their trek back to the North as soon as the weather warms. Grab your binoculars and scout them out!

Find out which birds are likely to travel near you and see how many you can find. Make a game of it with your family and learn about wildlife while enjoying nature’s best scavenger hunt.

Plein Air Painting

Creatives can enjoy the springtime too! Grab your paints and easel to set up shop in a pretty springtime scene.

Consider painting a botanical garden, spring meadow, or duck pond. Try to capture spring’s essence in a burst of color on your canvas.

Outdoor Yoga

When I lived in LA, I used to do yoga in the park in the spring. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy some fresh air while stretching your body.

Check your local community for offerings. If there aren’t any classes, there’s nothing stopping you from grabbing your mat and going out there on your own!

Patio Brunch

Why does brunch seem so much better in the springtime? Maybe it’s because you can enjoy it on a breezy, outdoor patio!

Grabbing a nice brunch is one of my favorite things to do in spring with my best friends. Grab your gang and check out your city’s best brunch spots.

Rainy Day Spring Activities

April showers bring May flowers

Although spring brings flowers, sunshine, warmth, and baby animals, it also brings much-needed rain and thunderstorms.

You may be stuck inside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it!

Here’s how I love spending a rainy spring weekend.

Watch the Rain

Maybe I’m an old soul, but there’s nothing better than sitting on a covered patio, watching the rain dance along the pavement.

Watching a thunderstorm is my absolute favorite. You can hear the rolling thunder, get a glimpse of nature’s majestic power as lightning strikes, and enjoy the Earth’s way of refreshing itself.

Play in the Rain

If you’re ambitious, you can get out of the chair and play in the rain.

Unleash your inner child and jump in puddles. Grab some friends and play an epic game of tag or frisbee.

Enjoy the fresh water as it falls from the sky.

Go Thrifting

I get it, not everyone wants to play in the rain. But if you don’t mind driving in it, why not check out your local thrift stores?

With everyone else doing their spring cleaning, you can find wonderful treasures at secondhand shops.

Make Flower Art

You collected flowers when the sun was shining bright, and a rainy afternoon is the perfect time to transform them into art.

Press them into books for safekeeping. Weave them into wreaths and garlands. Use their petals in a collage.

Get Creative

Why not do something creative while stuck indoors?

Paint, write, draw, make jewelry, sculpt figures. Check out the wide range of creative hobbies you can enjoy when going outside isn’t an option.

Read

There’s nothing better than snuggling up with a good book during a thunderstorm. Use the bonus free time to catch up on your reading.

Pick up a novel you’ve been wanting to read or finish that self-help book that’s been sitting on your shelf for months.

Write Poetry

Spring’s glory inspired poets for centuries; why not let it inspire you?

Craft prose about the season’s best, like the falling rain, spring flowers, and baby animals. Write verses about spring’s symbolic meaning too, expressing your thoughts about the season of regrowth and renewal.

Things To Do Around the House in Spring

Not all spring activities are what I’d call “fun,” but that doesn’t mean they aren’t necessary.

These springtime chores will give you a sense of accomplishment, and they have to be done sometime, so why not during the season of renewal?

Clean the Gutters

Everyone hates cleaning the gutters, but it’s one of those chores that you have to do in the spring. Clear the leaf debris from your gutters so nothing gets clogged up during the massive thunderstorms on the horizon.

It’s a thankless task, but you’ll be glad you did it.

The season of renewal is the perfect time to refresh your space. Do some spring cleaning to spruce up the joint.

It’s the perfect time to clean those difficult-to-reach places that you’ve been putting off, like the attic, garage, baseboards, and cupboards.

Have a Garage Sale

One person’s trash is someone else’s treasure. During your spring cleaning, you likely found a variety of things you no longer need.

Rather than throw them away, why not try to sell them? Spend a day outside offering your used goods to your neighbors. You’ll probably make a few bucks too!

Downsize

How much stuff do you have that you don’t need? Spring is the perfect time to toss it.

Clean out your closet and your storage unit. Get rid of the stuff that no longer serves you. You probably don’t need it anyway.

Of course, you don’t have to toss it. Either host a garage sale or donate it to a thrift store.

Enhance your Curb Appeal

Spring is the season of outdoor beautification. Enhance your curb appeal with new landscaping. Dig a little flower bed in the front of your house. Add a shrubbery. Power wash the driveway.

Make it so you love coming home.

Enjoy the Spring!
